Clachan Cottage lies at the foot of the Corse o' Slakes an Old Military Road which winds it's way over open moorland with beautiful sea veiws from it's gentle rolling hills.
A stroll down the peaceful lane leads to the picturesque Woodend Loch. The bordering Killiegowan Wood has been designated a site of special scientific interest. Early spring gives way to a flourish of wood anemone, wood sorrel and wild primroses. Many of the species of song birds are in full voice. During May an abundance of bluebells carpet the floor. Pied flycatchers, wood warblers and wood peckers together with other summer visitors are now making themselves heard. Along with the birds the wood is home to foxes, badgers, roe deer, fallow deer and red squirrels.
